JASON ORTIZ
CO-FOUNDER, CEO

Jason's expertise spans organized labor, communications, gaming, and real estate. He is one of New York's leading experts on gaming policy, representing the New York Hotel Trades Council, Genting, and Bally's, and he brings deep real estate expertise representing Tishman Speyer, Apollo Real Estate, RXR, and RFR. His client roster also includes Uber, Aetna, the Human Services Council, and Undue Medical Debt. Since co-founding Moonshot Strategies, he has led the firm's public affairs and government relations work on some of New York's highest-stakes fights and driven its grassroots and coalition campaigns, including the successful multi-year push behind New York's FY27 auto insurance reform law, applying the same offense-oriented playbook — direct public and political pressure on the other side of a fight — that has become a Moonshot Strategies hallmark.

Jason's public affairs career also includes several years inside government itself. From 2011 to 2013, he served as Director of Special Projects in the Office of the New York State Attorney General, where he led a multi-agency working group that developed investigative leads across the Public Corruption, Charities, and Taxpayer Protection bureaus — work that helped generate several of the Office's highest-profile public corruption prosecutions. He also led the overhaul of the state's government transparency website, working with outside stakeholders and good-government groups to turn NYOpenGovernment.com into a national model for public access to government information.

Jason spent decades working inside the organized labor movement, and today businesses across the country turn to him as the go-to advisor for navigating complex labor and union relationships. He brings 20 years of experience in lobbying, public relations, and political action, and was previously the Director of Political and Strategic Affairs for the New York Hotel Trades Council, widely viewed as the most influential institutional player in New York politics, where he engineered significant legislative and electoral victories and continues to provide the union political and communications counsel. His record of issue campaign and electoral wins across New York City and State includes key roles on policy victories for the Innocence Project, the Vera Institute of Justice, and the Drug Policy Alliance.
